Juicing is catching on as one of the best ways to get a boost of nutrition into your diet.
Like anything else, juicing can be kind of intimidating. You can drive yourself crazy over analyzing what kind of juicer to buy and can waste a lot of money on produce if your palette isn't up for a variety of new flavors. There are a lot of juicing books with great recipes. I do my best to eat my fruits and juice my vegetables. Fruit has so much sugar that the best way to benefit is to eat it whole - it will break down in your body slower. If you just juice fruit you will get a high dose of vitamins with a huge dose of sugar. Even though this sugar is the best kind for your body - it can still lead you to crash. I add just enough fruit to my veggie juices to make it enjoyable to drink. Green apples are my favorite to add because they have a tart taste that picks up any flavor combo and they have the least sugar content of any fruit.
Summer Basic Detox Juice Blend:
1 head Romaine Lettuce
4 - 6 stalks Celery
a bunch of Kale (or another dark leafy green)
2 green apples
Lemongrass - fresh - about 2-6 inches
Cilantro - I use a lot
handful Dandelion greens and roots
Juice the above ingredients. I then take the juice I made and use my blender to mix in
1/2 an avocado
The kiwi is for extra flavor and the lime helps keep my juice fresh tasting all day. The avocado is important. We need a little fat to optimally absorb all those vitamins. If you don't have an avocado - eat a handful of nuts with your juice or add a little EVOO, grapeseed oil, or other light weight oil to your juice. A tsp would be plenty for a 16 oz. juice.
